Collaborative Leadership and Effective Local Governance: Presenting the Library Advisory Board update alongside Library Director Melissa Kelly during the January 20th, 2026, City Council Study Session.

Practical governance relies on clear communication, transparency, and a data-driven approach to addressing our community’s needs. By working collaboratively with city leadership and staff, we ensure that public resources are managed responsibly and our city infrastructure directly supports the residents of Lake Oswego.

Connecting Our Community at Maker Day: Working with residents at the Lake Oswego Public Library’s 2026 Maker Day.

As chair of the Library Advisory Board, I am proud to help maximize our city’s public resources to serve everyone. Re-imagining our library ensures we are efficiently fostering local innovation, supporting lifelong learning, and updating our offerings to meet the actual needs of residents.

Recognized for Professional Leadership in Rehabilitation: Accepting the 2025 Volunteer of the Year award at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.

Drawing on almost two decades of professional expertise, I am proud to have built a rigorous theater and literacy program within Oregon’s correctional system. This is a vital part of my commitment to community service. By fostering accountability and essential communication skills, these initiatives prepare individuals for successful reentry, ultimately reducing recidivism and making all of our communities safer.

Stewardship in Action with Our Community Partners: Working alongside neighbors during a 2025 watershed clean-up day hosted by the Lake Oswego Rotary Club and the Lake Oswego Watershed Council.

Protecting our natural environment and maintaining local parks is a shared responsibility that enhances quality of life for everyone. Collaborative, hands-on volunteer efforts like this ensure our city’s beautiful natural resources remain clean, safe, and preserved for future generations.

Celebrating Our Shared Traditions and Community Spirit: Marching with family and neighbors in the 2024 Lake Oswego 4th of July Parade alongside the Lake Oswego Public Library.

Strong communities are built on shared traditions that bring us together to celebrate our city and our shared values. It is a privilege to participate in the local events that keep our community vibrant, safe, and united for the next generation.

Teaching Service and Supporting Local Families: Dropping off our monthly donation to FIDO (Friends Involved in Dog Outreach) with my wife, Raven, and son, Ronan, in partnership with the Lake Oswego Rotary Club.

Investing in our community means looking out for our neighbors, including their beloved pets. By volunteering together as a family, we are raising the next generation to value hard work, civic duty, and the simple, everyday actions that keep Lake Oswego a compassionate place to live.

Fostering Critical Thinking and Rehabilitation Through the Arts Facilitating a community discussion at the Oregon State Penitentiary following a 2018 production of An Iliad.

Bringing structured, rigorous theater and educational programming into culturally under-served communities is a key part of my commitment to public service. By engaging individuals in challenging discussions about history, choice, and accountability, we encourage the vital personal growth and communication skills necessary for successful reentry into society.

Fostering Civic Engagement and Family Traditions: Volunteering with my son, Ronan, at the 2026 Lake Oswego Reads Author Event held at Lakeridge High School.

By modeling civic engagement and supporting the literacy efforts of the Lake Oswego Public Library, we are investing in a more informed and connected city for everyone. For me, volunteering is a way to teach critical life skills to the next generation while strengthening the community we all call home.
